Walking, Hiking, and Biking
From those who are out on a casual stroll or ride up to the serious runners and cyclists, the Trinity Strand Trail will offer an easily accessible 7+ mile stretch of trail that will connect to both the Katy Trail and the Trinity River. It will allow those who want to enjoy nature and the outdoors the opportunity to do so without leaving the city.
The North Central Texas Council of Governments sustainable development program includes more information about bicycle and pedestrian transportation in the area.
Bird Watching
The Trinity River Audubon Center, which opened in October 2008, will serve as the gateway to explore the amazing natural resources of the Great Trinity River Forest. This grand wetland sits in the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. Wally, a Great Blue Heron, is a resident and can frequently be seen at his favorite fishing hole. Visit the Trinity River Audubon Center for more details.
